What is Holistic?

In order to stay healthy, there must be a balance between the physical, the
mental/ emotional and the spiritual components of our being.

When one of the three aspects of the health triangle is out of balance, then
we are more likely to experience dis-ease and less likely to return to
wellness quickly.

What we think affects how we feel and whether we stay ill or get well.  When
our spirit is in pain, or when our emotions are in turmoil, we suffer physically
as well.  When we are physically ill, our spirit is negatively impacted and our
emotional well-being is jeopardized.

Focusing on the physical symptoms is not enough.  The holistic perspective is
geared toward treating the WHOLE person, not just their body.  Maintaining
and regaining health requires that we care for all three aspects of who we
are.  It also requires that our basic needs are met: clean water, nutritious
food, and safe housing!  Unfortunately throughout the world today, there are
many who do not even have these basic needs met.

The holistic focus is not a new concept.  Ancient healers of all known cultures
recognized that spiritual distress compounded physical illness and developed
holistic treatments for injury and disease.  Florence Nightengale (1820-1910)
was one of pioneers who attempted to apply these concepts to mainstream
medical care at the turn of the 20th century.

The "modern" holistic movement began in the 1970's and is currently in full
swing.  People have become increasingly informed about health maintenance
and dis-ease treatments.  We understand that mainstream medicine does
not always work or work very well.

Those of us in the holistic field have seen alternative methods that not only
work, but work far better and with fewer side effects than the treatments
that we've experienced through mainstream medical care.

The purpose of this site is to allow the reader to identify alternative,
complimentary and most of all holistic techniques that may help them to
maintain or return to wholeness.
